BAckground

I am a classically trained pianist with over 10 years experience in teaching, accompaniment, and composing. I began my studies as a young child with extensive music theory, ear training, and classical music education. Through my experiences in various Chicago musical groups from 2006 until 2025, I found inspiration in the value of bringing music into the lives of children. My motivation is rooted in the hope to pass on well-rounded ability and lifelong knowledge in music.

MISSION

My mission is to enable others to find their musical voice by sharing the tools to do so. Learning the principles of music theory and developing the musical ear is fundamental. Understanding the “why” behind the “what” is very important to me. Despite my classical background, however, I place an emphasis on the importance of finding one’s own musical style and exploring one’s innate unique music journey.

Core Values

MY CORE VALUES

CUSTOM LEARNING

I give piano instruction according to your learning style, pace, and goals. As our momentum grows and the students gains a solid understanding of basic mechanics, I always explore incorporating music according to the student's interests. I am a heavy communicator. I like to check in with students and parents personally to maintain an accurate understanding of how students are feeling about course load, speed, and general interest in the instrument. I view learning and playing the piano as a service to oneself. I believe it should be fun, encouraging, and rewarding.

STEP BY STEP APPLICATION

I facilitate practice of the knowledge you will learn as you learn it. I reject skipping steps for the short term goal of playing something impressive, which comes from teaching from demonstration or memory. I require the child to reach a point of thorough understanding of his/her material. This is an enabling technique. This method allows the child to get the most out of their music lessons and apply what they have learned to eventually teach themselves whatever they desire!

MUSIC THEORY AS A TOOL

I do not compromise on music theory. My students do not memorize rules, they understand concepts. I teach primarily with classical music principles and music theory. I do this to build a strong foundation, allowing the child to apply what he/she has learned to find their own answers. Homework always includes drills, scales, and a variety of music. When students have a solid understanding of music theory, they acquire the confidence and desire to learn and practice music independently.
