BAckground
I am a classically trained pianist with over 10 years experience in teaching, accompaniment, and composing. I began my studies as a young child with extensive music theory, ear training, and classical music education. Through my experiences in various Chicago musical groups from 2006 until 2025, I found inspiration in the value of bringing music into the lives of others.
MISSION
My mission is to develop well-rounded pianists with the skills, knowledge, and musical foundation to enjoy music for a lifetime. I am passionate about helping others discover their unique musical voice by sharing the tools to do so. Understanding the “why” behind the “what” is very important to me. While I have a strong classical background, I place equal importance on helping each student discover their own musical style, preferences, and artistic vision.
MY CORE VALUES
CUSTOM LEARNING
I give piano instruction according to your learning style, pace, and goals. As our momentum grows and the student gains a solid understanding of basic mechanics, we will explore incorporating music related to the student's interests. I am a heavy communicator. I like to check in with students and parents personally to maintain an accurate understanding of how students feel about course load, speed, and general interest in the instrument. I view learning and playing the piano as a gift to oneself. I believe it should be fun and rewarding.
STEP BY STEP APPLICATION
I facilitate immediate action on the information my student is given as they receive it. I reject skipping steps for a short-term goal; I require my students to achieve a thorough understanding of their music. This is an empowering method that optimizes our time during music lessons and informs my students' practice method. My thoughtfully designed approach builds lasting skills and transferable musical understanding.
MUSIC THEORY AS A TOOL
I do not compromise on music theory. My students do not memorize groundless rules, they understand relevant concepts. My teaching is rooted in classical principles and music theory to establish a strong technical and musical foundation. From there, students are equipped to think independently and apply their knowledge with confidence. Homework always includes drills, scales, and a variety of music. When students have a solid understanding of music theory, they acquire the confidence and desire to learn and practice music independently.
